The following word problem is for practicing the application of mass conversions.

Example 1:


How many milligrams are in 4 grams?

To solve this problem, use the term of mass that is given in the problem in the matching term in the conversion factor. Solve the equation in order to get the answer in terms required by the problem.

Conversion factors: grams × 1000 = milligrams
                              milligrams ÷ 1000 = grams

 

4 × 1000 = milligrams
4 × 1000 = 4000

There are 4,000 milligrams in 4 grams.
