The following word problem is for practicing the application of english area conversions.

Example 1:


How many square feet are in 288 square inches?

To solve this problem, use the conversion factor by replacing the given units of measure in the problem with the matching units of measure in the conversion factor and work the problem through to get the solution in terms of units of area required by the problem.

Conversion factor: square inches ÷ 144 = square feet
                                      square feet × 144 = square inches

                    

288 ÷ 144 = square feet
288 ÷ 144 = 2

There are 2 square feet in 288 square inches.
