The following word problem is for practicing the application of metric to english or english to metric area conversions.

Example 1:


How many square inches are in 19.35 square centimeters?

To solve this problem use the conversion factor by replacing the given units of measure in the problem with the matching units of measure in the conversion factor and work the problem through to get the solution in terms of units of area required by the problem.

Conversion factor: square inches × 6.45 = square centimeters
                                      square centimeters ÷ 6.45 = square inches

                    

19.35 ÷ 6.45 = square inches
19.35 ÷ 6.45 = 3

There are 3 square inches in 19.35 square centimeters.
